LIONS VS MYERSCOUGH | PREVIEW

Teesside Lions start a three-game home stretch by welcoming Myerscough Academy to Eston Arena this Sunday.

The Lions got back to winning ways last weekend with a bounce-back victory against the Titans in Northamptonshire following a defeat at the hands of the Worcester Wolves.

Lions now sit fourth in the National Basketball League Division Two North standings with a 10-8 record, with Sunday’s Myerscough not far behind in seventh with a 9-11 record.

The Preston-based side boast a talented young squad, with a nationally known development programme and have seen many success stories over the years.

GB U18’s guard Tyrese Lacey (pictured above) is the main man for Myerscough and is capable of doing anything on the court. He’s averaging 21 points per game on fantastic efficiency. But on top of his elite-level scoring, Lacey is averaging 8 assists and nearly 4 steals per game. Staggering numbers for a player of his age.

The ever-exciting Lions star Tom Horvat, coming off a 41-point outing against Worcester last weekend, is now averaging similar stats to that of Lacey, with 21 points per game with plenty of assists and steals.

Myerscough Coach Troy Culley is also a Great Britain Coach and runs a well organised team of talented players, which got the better of Teesside when the two sides last met.

A depleted Lions side couldn’t catch up with an energetic Myerscough offence, and lost 98-66 back in December; the heaviest league defeat of the season.

But the Lions look a lot different now, with more momentum to their name, positive results and performances. Coach Bojev’s side will be hoping to turn the tables this time around.
